Western North Carolina Home Repair Readiness Program

by | Jul 28, 2026 | Recovery Resources

Program is to help residents affected by Hurricane Helene in these Western North Carolina counties.

Administered by Western Piedmont Council of Governments in partnership with other regional Councils of Governments in Western North Carolina.

Is your home ready for weatherization?

Many homes damaged by Hurricane Helene need minor repairs (like a roof patch or structural fix) before they can qualify for rebates for comprehensive energy-saving upgrades. This program covers those pre-weatherization repairs!

Eligible projects will include:

  • Roof, wall, ceiling, floor, plumbing, and/or electrical repairs needed for effective weatherization
  • Remediation of moisture intrusion
  • Servicing or installing new energy-efficient HVAC systems and programmable thermostats
  • Upgrading or reinforcing the building envelope
  • Servicing or installing energy-efficient water heaters
  • Implementing LED lighting
  • Increasing indoor air quality by installing exhaust fans
  • Installing smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors
  • Support for private insurance deductibles if the repair activities covered by insurance (beyond the deductible) qualify as eligible repairs under the program
